Bereavement can cause many different symptoms and they affect people in different ways. There's no right or wrong way to feel.
Navigating suicide bereavement can be particularly hard. Suicide loss is devastating and quite often adds complicated layers to the already difficult grieving process. We want to give you access to a safe space where you can work through this grief. A counsellor can help you understand any complex, painful emotions and help you develop coping strategies. -
We provide one on one online webcam or telephone talking therapy for people who have been bereaved by suicide. Trained counsellors can give you a safe space to understand and navigate your grief, develop coping strategies and explore your thoughts and feelings. We don’t currently offer group therapy, CBT, or EMDR therapy.
-
We are currently able to offer up to 12 sessions. Different people have different needs when it comes to counselling, so exactly how many sessions you need is a discussion that happens between you and your counsellor.
-
Finding a counsellor can be daunting and difficult. We've taken the hard work out of the search by hand-picking a team of qualified bereavement counsellors who all specialise in suicide loss. You can find out more information about our Counselling Service here.
-
We offer both evening and some weekend sessions. When having your assessment with us, there will be an opportunity to share more about what time may work best for you, and we will do our best to support individual preferences guided by the availability of our counselling team. There may be times when our evening and weekend availability is limited.

No, we are only able to offer counselling to people over the age of 18. If you or someone you care for is under 18 and needs support, you can find some helpful links on our Help Hub, or seek help from organisations like Child Bereavement UK or Winston’s Wish. You can also call us on 0800 054 8400 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm) and we can help signpost to organisations too.
-
At the moment we are taking applications directly from individuals seeking support, and you can apply online here. You can also call us on 0800 054 8400 (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) and we can complete an application over the phone.
-
How long you have to wait could depend on the demand at the time you apply, but we will always aim to respond within 48 hours of your application to let you know it has been received and let you know an estimate of our waiting list at that time. If it would feel supportive to have a safe space to talk about how your grief and how you're feeling before we reach out with an available space, you can call us on 0800 054 8400 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm) and we can connect you with a member of our emotional support team.
-
We can accept an application for counselling at any stage following a loss to suicide. However, we don't start counselling sessions until you have reached the 6 month mark in your bereavement. This is based on our service guidance, and because we recognise just how up-and-down and filled with raw emotions that these first months can be. For anyone who does apply for counselling under 6 months bereaved, we will hold onto your application until we are able to offer counselling and we will work with you to explore options for support in the meantime.
-
At Suicide&Co we know there is no set end date to when you might need to reach out and ask for help, so you can apply for help even if it has been a long time since you lost someone.
-
No, we believe that everyone should be able to access help regardless of their means, so counselling sessions are provided for free. However, if you are in a position where you are able to contribute towards your sessions, there will be the option to donate (from £0-£30) towards each session. We do encourage people who are able to support us with donations or fundraising when and if they feel able to do so, to help us continue to provide support to others.
-
We are a registered charity and all our funding comes from individual donations, group fundraising and grants.
-
Yes! If you feel able to donate you can help us to continue to provide support to other people.
