Calling for photography submissions to our new online gallery that represents what ‘company’ means to you.

Project Background & Purpose

You are always in company, whether this be with old friends, new friends, family, a partner, colleagues, an online community or a charity or service like ours! We all have company; yet it’s hard to remember that when we’re going through a difficult time, so we are here to remind you.

When you think of isolation and loneliness it’s easy to picture a visual in your head, but when you think of company, images of parties or festivals may come to mind, when actually company is a flexible concept that comforts us all in many ways.

We want to bring the idea of company to life in an inspirational way that uplifts and inspires our community. So we are launching a new project in collaboration with The Photography Movement, where we are going to create an online gallery of photos that represent what company means to our community.

By engaging with the art form of photography we believe this campaign will spark a positive conversation and even action, to encourage people to think about how they value company and how they could improve their unique methods of support.

Submission Guidance

You do not need to be a pro with a high tech camera to take part (although professional photographers are definitely welcome and encouraged to submit!), a phone camera and an idea of your representation of company is more than enough.

Company could be represented visually in many ways, which we believe will make for a fantastic collection of images, to inspire and allow people bereaved by suicide to resonate and share their version of support.

Please see some examples ideas are below.

Support Network: gatherings, sharing day to day moments, physical offers of support (e.g.food deliveries from friends), friends/family/colleagues

Community: spirituality, traditions, sports clubs, community centres, religion

Services: charity offices, online support, helplines, support group meetings

Feelings It Invokes: confidence, listening, empathy, loved, heard, connected, belonging.

Upcoming Plans

As a second phase of this project, we are hoping to develop an in person curated project space to showcase some of the photography submissions. This will be open to the public in April, with events that are created to inspire communities and spark a needed conversation around suicide and accessing needed services.
