The Tell Us Once Service

There are a lot of practical tasks that need to be done after a loved one has passed away which can be incredibly overwhelming and stressful There are also extra processes and things to do when it has been a death by suicide which can  be daunting.

Tell Us Once is a service that allows you to report a death to most government organisations at the same time, making the process a lot simpler. The service follows an easy process; once you register the death, you can choose whether you would like a registrar to complete the Tell Us Once service alongside you or give you a unique reference number so you are able to use the service via the phone or online.

Once you are ready to use the service, you will need to give various details about the person who died. The details you may need to gather can be found here. As soon as this has been completed, Tell Us Once will notify various organisations such as HMRC, Passport Office, the local council, Department for Work and Pensions and more. The service will also contact some public sector pension schemes in order to cancel any future pension payments.

We are never prepared for these situations, especially when the death is sudden like a suicide, so Tell Us Once could be a helpful tool in order to make tough procedures more simple and straightforward during this extremely difficult time. You can find out more about the service here.
