Amparo- a charity providing local emotional and practical support after suicide

Amparo means ‘shelter’ or ‘safe haven,’ in Spanish and this charity does just that. Amparo aims to provided local emotional and practical support to anyone who has been affected by suicide. It is a completely confidential service and can provide short-term or long-term practical support to those bereaved. If you live in Cheshire and Merseyside, Lancashire, South Yorkshire, Kent & Medway, Thames Valley, Coventry & Warwickshire, Lincolnshire, and Hampshire & Isle of Wight and have been bereaved by suicide you can access their services.

Their Liaison Workers provide practical support within the first 6 months of bereavement. They will listen and help you with accessing immediate support for the practical things that can be stressful, for example, liaising with police and coroners, media enquiries, inquests and more. These are all areas that can be incredibly overwhelming to deal with alone when you have just lost someone, so Amparo is a great resource to help you gain that practical support straight away.

Amparo is delivered by Listening Ear, a charity that has over 25 years of experience in supporting people through bereavement and grief. The Amparo Team Leaders and Liaison Workers have been recruited for their empathy, non-judgemental nature and their skills in helping to try to solve the practical issues involved in dealing with bereavement by suicide. Their Liaison Workers are based in their localities and also know the support agencies that are available to help.

This is a really good service if you are seeking emotional support or help with practical matters that can be really difficult to face alone. You can access their services on the phone, through a video link or at their community venues - whatever you would feel most comfortable with. Amparo also provides the option to refer someone confidentially here.
